xAI Launches Grok as a Standalone App

Grok is stepping out on its own! xAI has just unveiled a beta standalone app for its Grok AI assistant, signaling its shift away from being tethered to X (formerly Twitter). This move positions Grok as a direct challenger to heavyweights like ChatGPT and Gemini.

The Details:

• The new iOS app lets users dive into Grok 2, xAI’s latest AI model, without needing an X account or subscription.

• Multiple login options are available, including Apple, Google, X accounts, or email, with both free and premium versions up for grabs.

• Grok now offers features like image generation, text summarization, and real-time info sourcing through web and X data.

• A revamped search feature allows Grok to reference older posts from any X user, enhancing its utility.

Why It Matters:

Although xAI entered the AI arena later, Grok has been developing at lightning speed. Previously confined to X, Grok hadn’t been seen as a formidable rival to ChatGPT. But with this new standalone app and whispers of Grok 3 on the horizon, xAI is setting the stage for a significant leap in 2025.
