SF Weekly Pulse - New technology for robotics to walk on water
OpenAI has partnered with AMD to supply six gigawatts of processors for its AI data centers. The five-year deal begins with a one-gigawatt rollout of AMD Instinct MI450 GPUs in the second half of 2026. AMD expects “tens of billions” in revenue and grants OpenAI the option to buy up to 10% of its stock if targets are met. AMD shares surged 23.7% following the announcement.
OpenAI’s much-hyped display-free AI device — designed to see, hear, and respond naturally — is reportedly facing major design and technical hurdles. Engineers are still debating the assistant’s “personality,” privacy controls for an always-listening mic, and the infrastructure needed to power millions of devices. Sources claim its tone and conversational timing are also unresolved.

Comet’s main feature is a sidecar assistant that answers questions, summarizes pages, and navigates sites in real time. Meanwhile, premium subscribers are getting access to an email assistant, early feature access, and the new “background assistant” that handles multiple tasks simultaneously via a dashboard.
