🧠 Microsoft VASA-1 Model Brings Inanimate Portraits to Life

Image: Microsoft

Microsoft Research Asia has unveiled a groundbreaking New AI Model called VASA-1, capable of generating realistic human faces that can speak, using only a single image and a speech audio clip as input.

The Details:

  • VASA-1 takes an image of a person and an audio file, creating a video where the face mimics facial expressions, head motions, and synchronized lip movements to match the audio.

  • The model was built by combining AI programs like OpenAI`s DALL-E-3, head movement generation models, and numerous video samples to create lifelike facial animations.

  • Microsoft demonstrated VASA-1`s capabilities by releasing footage of the famous Mona Lisa portrait rapping the lyrics to Lady Gaga`s “Paparazzi”.

Why it matters: While Microsoft has no immediate plans to release an online demo or commercial product, the company envisions VASA-1 paving the way for “real-time engagements with human-like avatars” that could provide companionship and therapeutic support. However, Microsoft emphasizes its opposition to creating “misleading or harmful contents of real persons” and aims to ensure the model is used responsibly and in accordance with proper regulations before any potential launch.

🔥 Adobe Improves Firefly AI for Better Image Creation

Image: Aobe Firefly

Adobe has made their Firefly AI model better at creating Images. The new version can make higher quality images, understand language better, and create different styles faster.

The Details:

  • The Firefly Image 3 update makes the images look more realistic, with better text and illustrations.

  • New tools let users have more control over how the AI generates images, like setting the structure or style.

  • Adobe added Firefly AI to Photoshop with new features like filling areas with AI images, creating similar images, generating backgrounds, and increasing details.

  • Adobe says they trained the AI on properly licensed content, and any Firefly images will be automatically labeled as AI-generated.

Why it matters: The improvements make Firefly one of the best AI image generators. By putting this AI directly into creative software like Photoshop, Adobe is showing how AI can be a tool to help human creativity, rather than replace it entirely.
