UC Berkeley's NovaSky team has just dropped Sky-T1-32B-Preview, an open-source reasoning model that rivals earlier versions of OpenAI’s o1, all for just $450 in training costs and mere hours of training time.

The Details:

• Sky-T1 is a fine-tuned version of Alibaba’s Qwen2.5-32-Instruct, leveraging data from the open-source reasoning model QwQ-32B-Preview.

• Training wrapped up in just 19 hours using 8 H100 GPUs, slashing typical AI training expenses.

• The model not only matches but outperforms an earlier version of OpenAI’s o1 in several benchmarks, excelling in mathematics and coding.

• Uniquely, Sky-T1’s pipeline—from training data to code and model weights—is entirely open source.
