Five U.S. Senators have sent a letter to OpenAI demanding information about potential government access to its AI systems, and company`s efforts to ensure AI safety following reports of rushed safety testing for GPT-4 Omni.

Meta releases Llama 3.1 405B, its largest and most advanced open-source language model to date.

The details:

• 405 billion parameter model, the largest in the Llama series, trained using 16,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs

• Outperforms GPT-4o and earlier GPT-4 versions in benchmarks

• Supports 8 languages with a 128,000-token context length

• Smaller versions (70B and 8B) also show strong performance

• Supports coding, math, and multilingual text tasks

• Trained on 15 trillion tokens, including synthetic data from other AI models

• Updated licensing allows third-party model creation using Llama 3.1 outputs

• Smaller versions (8B and 70B) also released with larger context windows

• Requires substantial hardware to run efficiently
