IOC (Olympics) to Use AI to Protect AthletesšŸ…šŸ¤–

With political tensions high and 500 million Olympic-related social media posts expected, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is turning to AI to protect athletes from online harassment.

The AI Solution šŸ›”ļø

Whatā€™s Happening?

  • AI Moderation: The IOC will deploy an AI tool to flag and delete abusive posts in over 35 languages, safeguarding 15,000 athletes and organizers.

  • Research: This initiative will help researchers understand the scope of online abuse and its impact on athletesā€™ well-being.

  • Scale: Itā€™s the first large-scale use of AI for athlete protection at the Olympic

Why?

Human moderation canā€™t keep up with the sheer volume of posts. IOC President Thomas Bach highlighted the enormity of the task, noting it would take 16 years to manually review all posts.

Controversy:

  • Privacy Concerns: Some experts worry about the IOC overstepping its bounds and overriding social media policies.

  • Civil Liberties: The French governmentā€™s use of AI-enhanced cameras for crowd tracking and weapon detection has sparked criticism from civil liberties advocates.

Context:

Olympic organizers argue the need for protection is clear. Microsoft reported that Russian agents created fake documentaries and images to intimidate attendees and discredit the Olympic Committee.

EV Technology
Tesla been bumped out of the #1 position

The Chinese makers did it again in 2024 surpassing Tesla as the world's largest EV seller, now two years in a row.
It seemed like today was just the beginning of electric cars but no. The first electric vehicle with its own power source was tested in Paris, April 1881, then the first real car was made by a German engineer Andreas Flocken in 1888 called the Elektrowagen, now that EV are beginning to dominate the roads  why did it faded away in the past?

As with many inventions they need other inventions to make possible for it to succeed.  Without the lithium-ion batteries we would have no use for electric vehicles, without this invention, EV would not dominate the roads and still would just be a fad from the past. Gasoline at that time was better for the cars and would be cheaper, the technology for the electric vehicles was not there and seemed to expensive to even try to make it possible.

The lithium-ion battery was first used in 1998 Nissan A Ultra EV which made it possible for electric cars to succeed and there we go an invention from almost 2 centuries ago in 1881 was revived by an invention in 1998 which made it look like the electric vehicle had just been invented. I got a little off track but Tesla was released in 2008 and was the first highway-legal,  mass produce electric car and now it's almost everywhere.

In this parking lot from the beginning of the 6 cars in the picture both cars at the end of the photo are EV and there are more  parked in the parking lot.

In 2035, New York will be an all electric vehicle state by law and the busses and trucks will follow as many are changing already.
