Grok 3

Elon Musk promised an AI that tells the truth—no matter what. But Grok 3 had other plans.

Users discovered the model was refusing to discuss negative details about Trump and Musk. When it did? It called Musk the biggest spreader of misinformation.

What happened next?

  • xAI engineer Igor Babuschkin called the response “a bad failure” and quickly patched it, making Grok refuse to answer.

  • Days later, users noticed Grok was explicitly told to ignore sources linking Trump and Musk to misinformation.

  • The censoring? Done by a former OpenAI employee who, according to Babuschkin, hadn’t “fully absorbed xAI’s culture.”

  • Meanwhile, OpenAI staff accused xAI of withholding benchmark data on Grok 3. Babuschkin fired back, calling the claims “completely wrong.”

Why does this matter?

Musk has long attacked AI censorship, calling for free speech in tech. But when his own model challenges his narrative? It gets muzzled. This, along with changes to Community Notes, raises a big question: Is Musk’s ‘maximally truth-seeking’ AI just another controlled narrative?

What’s new?
🔹 Tiny but mighty – SmolVLM2 models start at 256M parameters yet perform like larger models.
🔹 Runs anywhere – Works on iPhones, laptops, and even low-power devices.
🔹 Real-world applications – Includes an iPhone app for video analysis and a natural language video navigation tool.
🔹 Flagship model (2.2B parameters) – Outperforms similar-sized models while running on basic hardware.
🔹 Easy to use – Available in MLX (for Apple devices) with Python & Swift APIs for instant deployment.

Why does this matter?
AI that understands video locally—without sending data to the cloud—means better privacy and faster real-time applications. The future of on-device AI is here, and it’s getting smaller, smarter, and more powerful.
