A groundbreaking study from the University of Cambridge has revealed that OpenAI`s GPT-4 language model can analyze eye conditions and suggest treatments at a level comparable to expert ophthalmologists.
The Details:
The study tested GPT-4, GPT-3.5, PaLM 2, LLaMA, as well as expert and trainee ophthalmologists on 87 multiple-choice questions related to eye conditions.
GPT-4 scored 60/87, outperforming the average scores of trainees (59.7) and junior doctors (37), and closely trailing the expert ophthalmologists` average of 66.4.

Researchers from the University of Cambridge have harnessed the power of artificial intelligence to dramatically accelerate the search for Parkinson`s disease treatments, identifying highly potent compounds that block the clumping of the protein associated with the condition, a breakthrough detailed in the Journal Nature Chemical Biology.
The Details:
The team used machine learning techniques to rapidly screen a massive chemical library containing millions of entries, identifying five promising compounds for further investigation.
This AI-Based strategy enabled a ten-fold acceleration in the initial screening process and a thousand-fold reduction in cost compared to traditional methods.
The researchers developed a machine learning model that can identify specific regions on small molecules responsible for binding to and inhibiting the aggregation of alpha-synuclein, the protein that characterizes Parkinson`s.
The identified compounds target pockets on the surfaces of these protein aggregates, preventing their exponential proliferation, and are hundreds of times more potent than previously reported compounds.
