SAM ALTMAN

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, is contemplating restructuring the organization from a "capped-profit" model to a traditional for-profit company to better align with its mission and raise capital. Altman faced controversy after being briefly ousted in November for allegedly withholding information from the board, including the release of ChatGPT and his financial interests in OpenAI. Former board member Helen Toner accused Altman of misrepresentation and lack of transparency. OpenAI has clarified that Altman no longer controls the OpenAI Startup Fund, and chairman Bret Taylor reaffirmed the company's commitment to ensuring AGI benefits humanity.

Perplexity

Perplexity AI launched Perplexity Pages, a tool that lets users create detailed web pages from search queries, available in the library section for both free and paid users. Users can customize content, tone, and include media. Henry Modisett, Perplexity's head of design, emphasized enhancing research tools with human curation in a shareable format. Initially limited to select users, it will expand to all users, supporting web and mobile views. This tool aims to balance AI-generated content with human input, impacting blogging, journalism, and the web.

Apple

Apple plans to unveil a major AI-driven overhaul of Siri at WWDC, aimed at enhancing control of individual apps through more complex voice commands. The revamped Siri will leverage large language models (LLMs) to understand and execute detailed commands within Apple apps, with potential future support for third-party apps. New capabilities include summarizing articles, editing photos, and managing emails. Initially, Siri will handle single commands, with multi-step tasks expected next year. Despite the upgrade, some question if these changes are sufficient, especially compared to recent advancements by OpenAI and Google.
